Education
There are 14 elementary schools of which two are private. They
are supervised by the Social Educational Association and Catholic
Association of Educators. Disabled children are being integrated
into regular classes in Elementary School No 6
The establishment of nine middle schools, of which three are
private, is the result of reforms within the educational system
An increase in number of students in grammar schools and a
decrease in vocational schools has been noted in recent years.
Young people study at thirteen technical and nine grammar schools
of which one is private. The Catholic Church supervises one
of the grammar schools. Eight vocational schools offer a broad
variety of technical skills for those who are interested in
obtaining quick employment. Siedlce inhabitants also have the
opportunity to choose from twenty-seven private educational
institutions
Siedlce became an academic centre in 1969 when the Higher Pedagogic
School (presently Podlasie Academy) was established. About 8,000
students can choose from three disciplines: humanities, chemical-mathematics
and agriculture. In addition to regular daily and evening classes
the Academy offers classes for part time students and postgraduate
education. Almost 5335 students attend daily classes. More than
625 academic teachers work at the Academy, of which 147 are
full professors. The Academy has the right to confer academic
titles of Assistant Professor of Agronomy and Doctor of Agronomy,
Doctor of Livestock Husbandry and Doctor of Chemistry. The Academy
was the first in Poland to integrate disabled students into
regular classes in 1991. There are recorded academic books for
blind students as well as specially equipped facilities for
the handicapped. School buildings and student dormitories have
been modified to accommodate handicapped students. The number
of the disabled students is growing every year and currently
is about 270
The private Higher School of Finance and Management has been
established in Siedlce thanks to the activity of the Institute
of Economic Development. The graduates obtain a Bachelor's Degree
in the following areas: tax advising and financial administration,
finance and business accounting
